P.D.Q. Bach in Houston: We Have a Problem! (Acorn
Media
DVD AMP-8849):
A special live concert performance of P.D.Q. Bach’s greatest hits celebrating 40
years of this uniquely appealing act. Featuring Professor Schickele with
Orchestra X conducted by Peter Jacoby, this rare wide screen presentation
presents
the often requested New Horizons in Music Appreciation (Beethoven 5th
Symphony Sportscast), the evergreen oratorio The Seasonings and
perennial audience favorite
Iphigenia in Brooklyn. The latter includes, for the first time ever, the
original “Trumpet Involuntary” movement, which has never been recorded on CD.
DVD bonus features include on-screen theme identifications for The “Unbegun”
Symphony; even more P.D.Q. Bach music: the rounds Odden und
Enden (many of which are also unavailable on CD); KUHT interview with Peter Schickele; and
biographies of Peter Schickele, P.D.Q. Bach and Peter Jacoby. The audio is
available in both Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo and Dolby Digital 5.1 home theater
surround sound on a Region 1 (United States and Canada) DVD.
