The Do-It-Yourself 2005 December Concert Program Kit

For those of you who attended the 2005 December New York P.D.Q. Bach 40-year Retrogressive Concert but didn’t get a program (see explanation and apology), here is the next best thing:  a do-it-yourself program kit.  Follow the instructions below to make an amazingly-lifelike replica of an actual souvenir from this historical event.

Step 1:  Open the File:  Use this link to open the Program File.  This will open in a different browser window so that you can continue to follow the instructions.

Note:  for most authentic results, your printer must be able to print two-sided copies.  In case your printer can only print on one side of the paper, separate instructions are included below.  If you can make double-sided copies manually, follow the double-sided instructions below, and print page 2 on the back of page 1, page 4 on the back of page 3, and page 6 on the back of page 5.

For printers that can print double-sided:

For printers that can’t print double-sided

Step 2:  Print the pages.  In the separate window opened above, click the “Print” button.  This should bring up a list of printing options.  The exact options may vary based on the printer, but try to choose the following.  It also might be necessary to click the “Properties“ button to find these options.

     Orientation:  Set to “Landscape”

Print on Both Sides:  check this box

     Page Scaling:  Set to “None”

Auto Rotate and Center:  Leave this box unchecked

Now click the “OK” button on the printer dialog box. Follow any instructions about putting the half-printed pages back in the printer to print the other side.  This should print three double-sided pages.

Step 2:  Print the pages.  In the separate window opened above, click the “Print” button.  This should bring up a list of printing options.  The exact options may vary based on the printer, but try to choose the following.  It also might be necessary to click the “Properties” button to find these options.

     Orientation:  Set to “Landscape”

     Page Scaling:  Set to “None”

Auto Rotate and Center:  Leave this box unchecked

Now click the “OK” button on the printer dialog box.  This should print six single-sided pages.

Step 3:  Assemble the program.  Put the pile of three pages on a table with the title page face down (that’s the page with the date at the top right and the Web Site ad on the left, until you set it face down, which reverses right and left) and the page with Margaret Kampmeier’s biography facing up on the right side.  Lift the left side of the entire three-page packet (the top left corner says “Orff's Carmina Burana”) and fold it over on top of the right side.  Crease in the center, and you should have a completed program facing you.

Step 3:  Assemble the program.  The six pages will print out in the right order, but three of them must be turned over.  Put the pages down on a table one at a time in the following order:

1)  Put the title page face down (that’s the page with the date at the top right and the Web Site ad on the left, until you set it face down, which reverse right and left).

2)  Put the next page face up on top of it.  (It says “Program” on the left and lists the members of “The Canticum Novum Singers” on the right.)

3)  Put the next page face down on top of them.  (It has The Canticum Novum Singers’ biography on the left and an ad for Mozart’s Great Mass on the bottom right, until you set it face down.)

4)  Put the fourth page on top of the pile.  (It says “About the Artists” on the left and has Harold Rosenbaum’s biography on the right.)

5)  Put the fifth page face down on top of the others.  (It has the American Serpent Players biography on the left and Hai-Ting Chinn’s on the right before you set it face down.)

6)  Put the last page on top of the pile.  (It has Margaret Kampmeier’s biography on the right side.)

Now lift the left side of the entire six-page packet (the top left corner says “Orff's Carmina Burana”) and fold it over on top of the right side.  Crease in the center, and you should have a completed program facing you.  You’ll need to ignore all of the blank pages between the real ones.  Maybe you can tape them together or something.

Step 4:  Relive the concert in your mind, this time with a program in your hands.  If you have any problems with the instructions above, please send us an e-mail.  Again, we apologize for running short of programs.
