The Armadillos are coming to
Pasadena on Cinco de Mayo!
and here is
the Armadillo String Quartet’s announcement about the
18th
Annual
Music
by Peter Schickele Concert
Coming to Southern
California in early May following more performances around the U.S. and Canada
of his P.D.Q. Bach programs The Vegas Years, The “What’s Your Sign?”
Tour and The Jekyll & Hyde Tour, as well as performances of his own
works, Peter Schickele will be joining the Armadillo String Quartet for the 18th
year in a row for another concert of Music by Peter Schickele. Our friends
violist Roland Kato, cellist Larry Corbett and pianist Joanne Pearce Martin will
assist us, this time in presenting five works hoping to entertain, engage and
enlighten you. The performance will take place on Monday, May 5, at the
Neighborhood Church in Pasadena (see below), at 7:30 p.m.
Peter and Joanne will open the program with Overture to “The Civilian Barber”
for piano four hands followed by the quartet performing the Blue Set No. 1
for jazz string quartet. Then Armen and Joanne will play Mountain Music I,
with Barry and Ray joining them thereafter for the U.-S.-Mainland Premiere of
Music for Orcas Island for piano quartet.
Joanne and Barry will come out to begin the second half with Tombeau de
P.D.Q. Bach for violin and piano, after which the Armadillos will return
with Roland and Larry to conclude the concert with the monumental String
Sextet. As usual Peter will offer commentary on the origins and other
aspects of his compositions at various points during the program and there may
be other short surprises from Peter or the quartet or both.
Please join us in this evening of music making.
Cheers,
The Armadillo String Quartet
