For more than 15 years the Armadillo String Quartet has been presenting
annual concerts of the music of Peter Schickele in the Pasadena area. This
year they sent us the following e-mail, complete with boldface words, to tell us
all about what they’ve got planned this time.

Dear Friends,
Coming to Southern California in late April direct from
Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Peter Schickele
will be joining the Armadillo String Quartet for the 16th year in a row
for another concert of “Music by Peter Schickele”. Our friends
oboist Keve Wilson and pianist Guy Hallman will again assist us,
this time in presenting five works hoping to entertain, engage and enlighten
you. The performance will take place on Wednesday, April 26,
at Dabney Lounge on the Caltech campus in Pasadena,
beginning at 8:00 p.m.
We’ll open with Sketchbook, formerly known as Four Sketches for String
Quartet, now with a brand new fifth movement, Snapshot, in its
World Premiere performance. Then Ray and Guy will play the West
Coast Premiere of Mountain Music II for viola and piano. A
procession of musicians including Peter as narrator will herald The Emperor’s
New Clothes, a tale with music for narrator, oboe, violin, viola, cello and
piano which will conclude the first half.
Armen will come out all alone to begin the second half with Vermillion Suite
for unaccompanied cello, after which the Armadillos will return to conclude the
concert with the String Quartet No. 3, “The Four Seasons”. As usual
Peter will offer commentary on the origins and other aspects of his compositions
at various points during the program and there may be other short surprises from
Peter or the quartet or both.
Please join us in this evening of merry music making.
Cheers,
The Armadillo String Quartet
